Mike Rowe – The American Work Ethic

Mike Rowe is a smart guy with an intelligence that comes from a college education as well as life experience. I usually don’t post about non-design related things, but I think that Mr. Rowe has a good understanding of something many Americans are lacking in their views of work: value.

I don’t want to get all preachy on this topic. I honestly don’t feel I’m in the right person with the right experience to judge our entire American value system, but I do know what I see, and what I see is a distracted America.

We’re distracted by so much that making a list of our distractions would take me so long that I’d probably get distracted and lose sight of the real purpose of this post. The plain and simple truth is that overexposure to a few bright candles have cast the rest of us in darkness, and we feel that if we don’t have the “next big idea” than we are some how failing ourselves, and our country’s expectectations of us.

Focus on being the best you, you can be and don’t get hung up on being a millionaire. In the end, all that matters is our own self-respect. You can’t put a price tag on that.
